How this compilation came about ...
When Ines, John's friend and colleague from ENIL, and I set about to organise an online memorial event for John on the first anniversary of his passing, we were wondering how to pack as many tributes as possible into a limited amount of time. We were certain that there would be too many people who would want to contribute to include everyone as speakers during the actual event (and we were right!), but at the same time we certainly didn't want to exclude anyone either. The video compilation was the solution we came up with, and what we considered a compromise in the beginning, turned into a beautiful, colourful, very touching testimony of how special John was, how appreciated he was and how intense and meaningful the relationships were that he forged during his life.
So, the compilation, which was first shown during the online memorial event on 13/01/2026, is now available on YouTube - for those who couldn't attend the event, for those who could but want to rewatch just the compilation rather than the entire memorial, and for those like me who just love to watch it over and over again, as it is so very special.
Ines and I would like to thank everyone who took part in it. A particular shout-out goes to Christos, who did a great job putting the compilation together.
Some of John's colleagues, allies, friends, family decided to either send additional tributes for the memorial website - or focussed on the website itself, without being part of the video. This is why you find a number of posts on the website by people you may or may not spot in the video compilation as well.
I hope you enjoy watching the video clips, reading the tributes and looking at the pictures as much as I do. John was a wonderful man, and he knew a lot of wonderful people. The proof is in every single contribution.
Thank you everyone for making this happen! John would have been blown away by all of this.
Jana xx
